Posterous is a popular blogging platform which was acquired by Twitter in 2012. Posterous has announced closing of service by April 30, 2013. All existing Posterous users must be disappointed with the announcement. However, with so many blogging services – there are lot of options for Posterous users. WordPress is hugely popular blogging platform. Posterous users can easily transfer and move their Posterous blog to WordPress.com or WordPress.org self hosted blog.

Moving Posterous blog to WordPress.com service

1. To get started, go to WordPress.com and create a free account (or use your existing WordPress.com) account. Goto manage blogs section by logging into WordPress.com Dashboard.

2. Now goto Tools > Import section and then click Posterous importer option. Select the backup file and then choose which author should be assigned to imported posts.

Moving Posterous blog to WordPress.org self hosted

If you are using WordPress.org self hosted install on your own server, then you can use free Posterous Importer plugin. It can import posts, comments, tags, and attachments from a Posterous.com blog to your WordPress.org blog.

Also, you can directly request for backup of your Posterous blog from posterous.com/#backup url, which can be further imported into WordPress blog or website. Note – You need to request backup before April 30, 2013!
